CLOSE CONSECUTIVE CLASSICAL PRESENTATIONS OF HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY AT FMC KEFFI: CASE SERIES

Abstract

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder. It is a rare disease with male preponderance that may present as cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, angina or sudden cardiac death.

We report presentation of two cases in close succession while there has been no record of any in the recent past. Case 1 a 19yr/o woman who presented with history of chest pain, palpitations, dizziness and feeling of impending doom was managed as a case of HOCM with angina including echocardiography screening of family which revealed HOCM in her sister. Case 2 a 15yr/o boy who presented to cardiology clinic with recurrent exercise intolerance of 6years duration and 2D echocardiography confirmed a diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

These two cases call for high index of suspicion and the need for full evaluation for all patients in our environment
